Sacred Heart of Jesus Academy is a private, Catholic parochial school that provides personalized study programs for exemplary students who are highly motivated, responsible, and hardworking. Rooted in academic excellence and spiritual growth within the Catholic tradition, we offer a unique and rigorous approach to your student's high school education.
Our program is designed to be a collaborative effort between the school and the family in which we work together to identify academic goals for the student and then structure a plan for meeting those goals. Your student will then be assigned a mentor teacher who will be responsible for keeping the student accountable for their work as well as providing daily tutoring and instruction along with other members of the core team of teachers. Led by our new principal, Mr. Mark Proper, our core team members are Ms. Kelly Matson, Mr. Matthew Tyson, Mrs. Nancy Rohling, and Mr. Alex Harb.
Each school day consists of approximately a half day of direct instruction from our highly qualified teachers, and the remainder of the day is more unstructured in order to allow for individual tutoring, independent work, or off-campus experiential learning.
Aside from their academic course of study, students will be instructed on concepts of self-motivation and independent study with greater accountability. This is to help the student grow comfortable working with their mentor tutor to achieve goals. Students who excel will be able to work at a pace which more closely matches their abilities and interests.
Small class sizes, direct and online instruction, and outside-the-class experiences - combined with careful accountability and assessment of the student’s learning and outcomes - are all primary characteristic of this educational model. Dual enrollment and AP classes are also available, as well as instruction in the Latin language.
As the parochial school of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, spiritual growth through the teachings and practices of Catholicism is an intrinsic part of our mission. We aim to strengthen and enhance each student's understanding of their place and purpose within the Church's universal call to justice, mercy, and faith in Jesus Christ.
The Sacred Heart Academy is an accredited institution. Though unique in approach and content, our curriculum is designed to meet the 9th through 12th grade academic standards as laid out by the Alabama State Department of Education.
